Student Residence FAQ

Here we have gathered some of our most frequently asked questions about the student accommodation at Milligan Place. Simply click on any of the questions listed to display the answer.

What are the Accommodation Office opening hours?

The Accommodation Office hours are 8 to 11am and 4 to 7pm, Monday to Friday. The office is closed Saturday and Sunday but a contact telephone number is available for emergency assistance out of hours.

What facilities are in the houses/apartments?

All houses/apartments are fully equipped for self-catering with oven, hob, fridge freezer, toaster, microwave, crockery, cutlery and utensils.

One room in every house is a twin room and the other a single.

Houses contain a colour multichannel television and wireless Internet is available.

There is a laundry room on site; tokens are available to purchase in the Accommodation Office.

Are pets allowed?

No pets, reptiles or birds are allowed on-site.

Are credit cards accepted at the Accommodation Office?

Yes but Laser® cards are not.

What is the cancellation policy?

Should you fail to secure a place in college, your deposit will be refunded minus a €50 handling fee provided that you inform us in writing no later than 5 days from the first round of CAO offers. Cancellations for any other reason will attract a €150 deduction from your deposit.

Cancellations before Friday, August 22nd, 2008 incur a handling fee of €150. Should a student cancel their place after that date, no refund of the deposit or fees will be given.

Is there a restaurant in the complex?

As the complex is located in the heart of Sligo city, there is an abundance of restaurants, cafés and coffee shops within a short stroll.

What is a twin room?

A twin room is a large bedroom consisting of two single beds, which are shared by two students.

How are roommates allocated?

If you have one friend you wish to share with, Milligan Place will endeavour but not guarantee to accommodate you provided this request is clearly shown on both application forms at the time of application. Otherwise a lottery system applies to the allocation of roommates.

How can I get the Internet at Milligan Place?

Wireless internet is available in all bedrooms in Milligan Place. A wirless network card is required.

Do I have to leave at Christmas or Easter?

No. The duration of your accommodation licence is a 38-week period.

What happens if I pay for accommodation and fail to be offered a place at Sligo IT?

In the case where a student fails to be offered a place at Sligo IT €50 will be deducted and the balance refunded.

You must cancel your reservation in writing only within 5 days of the first round of CAO offers. Cancellations for any other reasons will incur a €150 handling fee.

Telephone bookings or cancellations are not accepted.

How far is Sligo City Centre from the complex?

Sligo City Centre is less than 2 minutes walk from Milligan Place.

How far is Sligo IT from Milligan Place?

Sligo IT is an 8 to 10 minute walk from Milligan Place.

Is a bus service available to Sligo IT and St Angelas College?

Yes, Sligo IT is served by the public “IMO” town service with a bus stop near by. St. Angelas is served by a private bus operator with buses hourly from Sligo City Centre - see www.innisfreecoaches.ie.

What is your policy on visitors?

All visitors (friends and family) must leave Milligan Place by midnight.

Is there a curfew?

No. Residents can come and go as they please provided they carry their Milligan Place ID Cards with them at all times.

Does Milligan Place provide insurance for my belongings?

No. You must take out your own insurance for your possessions. This can often be done by having the family household policy extended to cover personal effects away from home.

Will my room be cleaned on a weekly or monthly basis?

No, you are solely responsible for maintaining your residence in a clean condition. Monthly housekeeping checks are conducted to ensure that the standards set are kept.

What should I bring with me when moving in?

Pillow, duvet, bed linen towels etc. Mattress covers are provided and must be used.

Why the name Milligan Place?

The complex is named to honour the late great comedian Spike Milligan who had strong connections with Sligo. You may learn more about Spike and his Sligo roots here.

How much money do I need to send with my booking form?

You must send €300 with your booking form. This deposit of €300 will comprise a security deposit, which the Management Company will retain pending the satisfactory return of your residence at the end of the academic year and no ‘excess’ electricity charges.

How soon must I confirm my reservation?

You are advised to make a reservation immediately. Act now! Forward the booking form, together with your deposit (€300) without delay. Receipt of both your application and deposit will be confirmed by reply. Your reservation will be confirmed at the earliest practicable date.

N.B. Remember, your first rent payment must be paid in full no later than Friday, August 29th, 2008.

Can I book by telephone?

No, you can only apply in the prescribed manner. Forward the booking form, together with your deposit (€300) without delay.

Can I obtain my apartment number or roommate details before check-in?

No, your apartment details will be issued to you on arrival.

Can a room be rented for part of the academic year?

Each room will only be rented for the full academic year. Students are liable for this period even if they do not stay for all of it.

When is the second rent payment due?

The 2nd rent payment is due no later than Friday, December 12th, 2008.

Who are payments to be made payable to?

All payments are to be made payable to “Milligan Place Student Accommodation”.
